Berlin. A city that continues to grow and almost bursts at the seams. But the problem is not new, as the housing shortage in Berlin has been a well-known issue since the 1920s, and solutions have had to be found repeatedly over the past 100 years.
This publication documents a cross-section of mass housing developments in Berlin, which have been designed and built since the First World War and especially after the division of the city to accommodate large crowds of people.
The book sheds light on the creation of the neighborhoods and buildings, includes interviews with some residents, and also offers a photographic glimpse behind the facades. The goal is to present the topic of mass housing and to dismantle the associated - mostly negative - stigmas through detailed insights.
